Church Needs

In light of the devastation from the recent earthquake many are responding to want to help where they cane. While there are a number of ways that you can support relief work we have a unique opportunity in which you or your church can give financially to the Church in Nepal through a local church (SARA) in Nepal.

The following categories outlined below are based on an initial assessment of damages and needs. It is hard to fully and accurately estimate all of the costs but we are doing our best in cooperation with SARA and the ministry partnership between ES4M and MDN to make sure that the dollars given to SARA to meet these needs are stewarded well and that financial accountability is taking place. As needs are assessed more closely and estimates get more specific we’ll update the needs and their costs accordingly.

Thanks for your consideration and generosity,

Michael Heitland, Director ES4M

1. Churches. SARA Ministries is an umbrella to 40 churches in Nepal. Many of these churches are mountainside.  10 of these churches are in significant need of repair. Ceilings have fallen in and walls have fallen down. These churches, like SARA Church in Kathmandu, are providing shelter for those who have lost their homes. The government will not assist Christian churches in rebuilding their places of worship.

Estimated need: $10,000 – $15,000 USD

2. Orphanage. SARA Children’s Home suffered significant structural damage. There is concern about the structures stability in light of the damages. The solar systems for potable water, and lights are damaged. The structure will need repair and until that is done the orphans will be sleeping outside. They have need for tents, food, clean water, and other supplies.

Estimated need: $20,000 – $25,000 USD

3. Local Believers. Most of our Nepali brothers and sisters live with their daily wages. The earthquake has truly wiped out the local economy. Most will be without jobs, or homes. It is hard to estimate when they will be able to find work. There are many NGO’s out there but not enough to insure that everyone will be reached in time. Many of them are mothers and in need of milk for babies and food for children. SARA will be working to provide relief in the form of basic human needs (food, water, shelter) to the church.

Estimated need: $15,000 – $20,000 USD

4. Community. Thousands of people have lost their loved ones, house, property, etc. Many are calling upon the church for help with food and water. SARA Ministries desires to help by providing food, clothes, temporary shelter, and assistance to repair houses to a livable level. Empowering the local church to meet the needs of the community is an excellent way display Christ’s love and open doors for Gospel proclamation.

Estimated need: $10,000 – $15,000 USD

While there are clear financial needs in Nepal, we do not want you to forget first to pray. We want to stand with our brothers and sisters in Nepal in praying for God’s peace and presence to be known and for faith and for a deepening belief in God’s merciful care in the midst of tragedy. We want to pray that those who know Christ would offer, along with a bottle of water or a hand with cleanup, the hope they have in Christ that both gives them hope now and in the life to come.

Prayer is not intended to change God’s purpose, nor is it to move Him to form fresh purposes. God has decreed that certain events shall come to pass through the means He has appointed for their accomplishment. —Arthur W. Pink
